Terms of Use

1. What the site is

ImagePress provides free browser-based image compression and conversion tools. All processing happens on your own device. We do not receive the images you process and cannot recover them for you, because we never have them.

2. Licence to use the site

You may use the site for personal or commercial work at no charge.

You may not attempt to disrupt the site or other users’ access to it, including by overloading it with automated requests, probing it for vulnerabilities without authorisation, or circumventing rate limiting or security controls.

The software behind this site is open source under the licences identified on the about page. Those licences govern the software itself; these terms govern your use of the hosted service.

3. Your responsibilities

• You are responsible for the images you process and for having the right to process them.
• Do not use the site to process material that is unlawful, or that infringes anyone’s rights.
• Because processing is local, you are responsible for keeping your own backups. We cannot recover a file for you.

4. No warranty

The site and every tool on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free.

Compression is lossy by nature. Always keep your original file, and check the result before relying on it. Re-compressing an already-compressed image degrades it further each time.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ImagePress and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, profits or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use the site (which is zero) or the minimum permitted by applicable law.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

6. Availability and changes

We may add, change, suspend or remove any tool or format at any time without notice. The site is free and carries no service-level commitment. If you rely on a tool for a repeated workflow, remember that the underlying codecs and the upstream project are open source and can be self-hosted.

7. Advertising

This site carries third-party advertising, which funds it. Advertisers do not influence which formats are supported or how the tools behave, and they have no access to the images you process. See the privacy policy for how advertising cookies work and how to opt out.

8. Intellectual property

The ImagePress name, logo and site design belong to the project. The upstream Squoosh project and the individual image codecs remain the property of their respective authors and are used under the licences identified on the about page, with attribution retained as those licences require.

9. Governing terms

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator’s place of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
